Walter "Legs" Miller, 88 of Allentown, passed away peacefully on July 30 at Holy Family Manor in Bethlehem. He was born on January 6, 1923, in Allentown, one of nine children to the late Rudolph and Julianna (Stubits) Miller. Walter was married to Antonie (Schmidt) Miller for 26 years, until her death in January 1989. At the age of 14 Walter joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in Maryland and served 3 years. Walter was employed at the Miller Pretzel Factory, Royal Upholstery, Blossom Clothing Factory and in the maintenance department for a major hotel in Allentown. In 1942 he joined the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division, as a paratrooper, under the 501st Battalion and in Korea as a Sgt 1st Class. He received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, wings for his 137 jumps, several good conduct medals and various other medals for his service. He retired after 22 years in the Army and then joined the 1st National Bank, now Wells Fargo, until retiring in 1988. Walter was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, in Allentown, St. Aloysius Young Men's Society, Austrian-Hungarian Veterans Society, St. Francis Society, and the Jordan Athletic Club. He loved his Golf and bowling and was well know for his walking, hence the nickname "Legs" and his love of his cats. Walter was predeceased by his Siblings: Hilda Barthlomew, Frances Brugger, Rudolph "Rudy" Miller, Julie Yeager, Frederick "Fritz" Miller, Rose Richards and Pauline Old. Survivors: Brother Albert "Ubby" Miller, 31 Nieces and Nephews, Step Children and Step Grandchildren in Germany.
