Walter Edwin Kemmerer (1925 - 2009)
Walter Edwin Kemmerer, 83, originally of Allentown, died early Saturday morning, January 3, 2009, at Phoebe Richland Health Care Center, Richlandtown after a prolonged illness. Born in Allentown, he was the only son of the late Edwin "Ewie" Paul and Margaret (Johnson) Kemmerer. He graduated from Allentown High School in 1943 and then enlisted in the Marines and attended Penn State University in the Officer's Training Program. He attained the rank of Second Lieutenant by the end of the war. He graduated from Lehigh University in 1948, pursued careers in sales, brokerage and investments, and before his illness, was the President of Pine State Management which directed the operations of Pine Tree Cable with subsidiaries in Maine, New Hampshire, and South Carolina. Walter was known for his love of Philadelphia sports teams, his joy whenever he was around water whether it was the beach or a backyard pool, and always being on the job. He never wanted to retire, but his illness made that decision for him.
Survivors: Walter is survived by his companion of many years Anne Carroll Nealis of Newtown Square; children, Barbara Ann of Allentown, Patricia Ellen and her husband Tom Donnelly of Bethlehem, Scott Edwin and his wife Carol of Hallowell, ME, Carol Jean and her husband Phil Schneck of Kutztown, and David Robert and his wife Karen of Clover, SC; plus many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
