Obituary

Vincent DePaul Ridge, 91, of Center Valley, passed away June 22, 2012. He was the husband of Dorothy C. (Sanders) Ridge whom he married June 11, 1948. He was born in the Panama Canal Zone, July 16, 1920, the son of the late John E. Ridge, Sr. and Theresa F. (Boland). Vince's father and uncles are Roosevelt Medal holders, presented to them for their work building the Panama Canal. Vince was a graduate of Balboa High School and the Canal Zone Junior College and served in the Armed Forces. He worked for the Panama Canal Company for 41 years in various capacities, last serving as a Dockmaster until his retirement in 1982. After he relocated to Pennsylvania he was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Limeport and participated in the music ministries of the parish. He was an active member for more than 45 years in the Barbershop Harmony Society last singing with the Lehigh Valley Harmonizers. He was a 69 year member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #1542, serving as an Grand Exalted Ruler in the Panama Canal Zone. He was a lifetime member of the Upper Saucon Social Quarters and was a volunteer Fire Police for Upper Saucon Township for over 25 years. He was an avid baseball enthusiast, playing, coaching, and officiating the sport. His winning attitude and sense of humor will be remembered and sadly missed by all. Survivors: In addition to his loving wife, are Eileen F., wife of Stephen Jones, West Reading, Susan J. Ridge, Center Valley, Nancy A., wife of Jaycee Williams, Mission Viejo, CA, Michael P., husband of Carol Ridge, Hackettstown, NJ, and Kevin V. Ridge, Center Valley. Vince enjoyed being a grandfather to: Stephanie and Valerie Jones, Kimberly Jones Jablonski, Garrett Ridge and Natalie Williams. Other survivors include brother Joseph (Sue) Ridge, Burlington, Iowa, and sister Margaret Coffey, Louisiana and many nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by five brothers and three sisters, John E. Ridge, Jr., Robert Ridge, Ralph Ridge, Patrick Ridge, Elbert Ridge, Mary Gribbin, Joan Marie Cartotto deGrummond and Rita Ridge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday June 30 at 10AM at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Limeport, Pa.
