IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Timothy M.
Mulligan
May 27, 1953 – May 13, 2018
Timothy Michael Mulligan, 64, would say, "Any day above ground is a good day," so hopefully he was a little lax on that motto.
Born on May 27 th , 1953 to Raymond and Mary Mulligan, he has 3 surviving brothers; David, Bob and Terry. Always the sort to beat to his own drum – and only his own drum (unless it was his loving wife Cindy's) – he was full of ambiguities. Tim was a rebel in youth, taking the aforementioned Raymond and Mary's car for joyrides well before the law may have thought appropriate, but someone who wanted nothing but the best for his family as a father. Someone who didn't care what anyone thought about him, but could seemingly talk to anyone and cared deeply for those people that were close to him.
He was always himself, for good and bad. And he remained true to himself until his last day. He's probably both touched and cursing at us right now for making this into a big thing. As he did, frequently, with his nurses the past few months.
Tim passed away on May 13 th , 2018, just two weeks shy of his 65 th birthday. He had many people who loved him dearly, including his wife Cynthia, whom passed in 2015. They supported one another. They worked well together. And they worked best as a team, each helping to pick up where the other may have left off. Although, I would have recommended them picking up and leaving each other off at the doctor's office more frequently. But they loved one another deeply and they kept family as their primary focus.
Tim had frequented local businesses such as the Buckeye, the Brass Rail, Yocco's, the Stone Crab and Indian Creek Golf Course. Although Tim retired to Wilmington, NC recently, he spent the majority of his life in the Lehigh Valley area running The Paper Outlet, a party good retail store that had been family-started and run for years. A tried and true Philly sports fan, he both loved the teams and realized sometimes it's best to go mow the lawn, golf or take a walk instead.
Tim was married once prior, to Susan Terry Mulligan, and had two children, Brian and Shawn. When he married Cindy Hoffman, she and her son Stephen completed their family.
The youngest of which is Shawn, who along with Travis, are the parents of a precocious little toddler named Rilynn. One of the last symbols of Tim's selflessness was moving to Wilmington, NC to support their family. We all knew this was fruitless, since he wasn't the best handler of kids after about 30 seconds of exposure to them, but it's the thought that counts, right? Shawn was his little girl though, and he wanted to make sure she was in good hands.
Stephen and wife Shawna spent the most time with Tim and Cindy, were a very close-knit family, and instrumental in Tim's care. They have two sons, Parker and Beckett. Cindy was the quintessential doting grandma to Parker, but was never able to meet Beckett, although I'm sure that's the first thing she asked Tim about when they reunited.
Brian, Tim's eldest son, held him in the highest regard. He was his father, his friend and his hero. Brian's wife Kelly, daughters Lauren, Katelyn and son William, as we all do, owe both Tim and Cindy a debt of gratitude for the love they bestowed upon us, the lives they shared with us, as well as the thought to keep our best interest in mind.
His best friends, Chris and Cynthia Stefchak along with his son Brian were by his bedside when he passed. Beside his children, it would also be remiss not to mention the enormous help they; Shawna Hoffman, Travis Crawford, Becky Mulligan, David and Nancy Mulligan provided in the months he was battling his illnesses. He will be missed terribly by all that loved him.
At this point what my dad would say, would probably be a simple, "Seeya kiddo."
And all I could say back would be, "Thanks Pops."
We love you.
