Sophie M. "Zoshka" Zieger, 85 of Allentown, died Sunday February 24, 2008 in the Phoebe Home Nursing and Rehab. Ctr., Allentown. She was the wife of Rudolph Zieger, Sr. for 46 years before his death September 18, 1988. Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Wasyl and Pazia (Turczyn) Markowitz. Sophie retired in 1990 as a toll collector for the Delaware River Toll Bridge Commission. She previously was a member of the I.L.G.W.U. and a union representative being employed in the garment industry. She was an active member of the Democratic Party. She was a member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Allentown. Survivors: Sons, Attorney Rudolph Zieger, Jr. and companion Barbara Stoneback of Allentown and Dr. William M. Zieger and wife Jackie of Raleigh, NC; brother, Joseph Markowitz of Allentown; sister Anne Biery of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Christopher L and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Eamonn and Nicholas. Predeceased by a grandson Michael S. Zieger October 2, 1998. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
