Sara Jane Donio, 94, formerly of Pershing Blvd., Whitehall Twp., died Monday February 2, 2009 at Whitehall Manor. She was the wife of Thomas Donio, Sr. for 37 years before his death on February 28, 1990. Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Elias and Fannie (Atiyeh) Charles. Sara Jane was a 1936 graduate of Kutztown University. She taught kindergarten for 31 years at the Whitehall-Coplay School District where she coached girls basketball. Previously she taught at the Lower Saucon Twp. elementary school, a former head teacher at the Glenolden School, Swain Country Day School and kindergarten at Northampton Grade School. She was former member and bass player with "The Swingettes". She was the oldest member of First Presbyterian Church of Allentown. Survivors: Son, Thomas Donio, Jr. and wife Carolyn of Macungie; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services: 11:00 am Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, 3231 Tilghman St. Allentown, PA 18104.
