Robert R. Wickel, 84, of Allentown, died on Thursday, May 24, 2012. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late William P. and Margaret (Honicker) Wickel. He was the husband of the late Mary Ann (Nemeth) Wickel for 55 years. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church for over 50 years, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. He was active in fundraising for the Allentown Diocese and DeSales University. He was a Knight of Columbus, serving as a Treasurer and Deputy Grand Knight. He and his brother William started Wickel Bros. & Co. in 1946 where he worked as a master plumber and roofer. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Central Catholic High School and took classes at Penn State and the Washington School of Art and Design. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be remembered for his humor, wisdom and guidance.
Survivors: Daughters, Roberta M, wife of Wayne C. Hower of Allentown, and Rose Marie, wife of Nicholas Harvilla, Jr. of Bethlehem; six grandchildren, Jessica, Samantha, and Megan Hower, Jennifer Tanczos, Liza and Nicholas Harvilla; and a great grandson, Joshua Tanczos. A daughter Ann Marie predeceased him.
