Robert Henry
Diehl Jr.
May 13, 1923 – February 5, 2022
Robert H. Diehl Jr., 98, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2022. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Robert H. Diehl Sr. and Ruth (Nonnemaker) Diehl. Robert was preceded in passing by his loving wife of 69 years, Ann A. Diehl in 2017.
Bob graduated from Bethlehem (now Liberty) High School, class of 1942. Afterwards, he honorably served our country in the US Army Air Corps during WWII from 1942-1945; he was a staff sergeant and was a flight engineer in a B-24 bomber; he served in the South Pacific theater (Saipan). When he returned, he attended Penn State Extension and Moravian College. Bob also received his certification in air conditioning from Northampton Community College.
Bob married Ann Arnold in 1948 at Moravian Old Chapel in Bethlehem. They built their home in Bethlehem in 1952 where they both resided for the rest of their lives.
Bob worked as a machinist for Mack Truck from 1942-1943. He was also an epoxy resin chemist for 14 years and a production supervisor at Electronic Plant for 16 years.
He was an active lifetime member of College Hill Moravian Church, starting from when he began Sunday School at four years old. He participated in their Sunday School choir from 1940-1943 playing the trombone and he was a Scoutmaster of Troop 25 from 1945-1946.
In his free time, he loved spending time in nature, specifically, fishing, gardening, and swimming. He was into home repair and auto repair. He also was an avid target shooter and was a member of Steel City Gun Club.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Linda D. Magee, wife of the late Richard C. Magee, of Marlton, NJ; grandchildren, Jonathan Magee of Cherry Hill, NJ, and Stephanie, wife of Christopher Como Jr., of Gibbsboro, NJ; great-grandchildren: Zoe and Christopher Como III of Gibbsboro, NJ; and a brother, Ned Diehl of Bethlehem.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in passing by his siblings: Peg Pile, Patricia Dimmick, and Donald, John, and David Diehl.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 11AM at College Hill Moravian Church 72 W Laurel St, Bethlehem, PA 18018. Burial with military honors to follow the fellowship at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's memory to the College Hill Moravian Church.
