Obituary

Richard Schantz Ziegler passed away late Saturday afternoon, September 22nd surrounded by family. Born in Allentown on June 21st, 1925, he was the son of Emory and Esther Ziegler. He graduated from Allen High School and Muhlenberg College. He was a World War II Veteran, having served in the Army Air Corps in Guam. He worked as an accountant for the Bethlehem Steel until retiring many years ago. A kind and gentle man, he will be missed by family and friends.
In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing cards and loved to putter around the house with inside and outside projects. In later years, he became an avid fan of old black and white movies. He was fascinated with trains his entire life. He was a long-time member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Allentown, before joining Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Bethlehem.
Richard was preceded in passing by his wife of sixty-three years, Helena Wieder Ziegler.
Survivors: Son Richard Scott Ziegler, daughter-in-law Barbara Ziegler, and grandson, Michael Scott Ziegler, as well as his daughter, Robin Sue Dogas, his son-in-law, Christos Dogas, and grandchildren, Dimitrios and Nicholas Dogas.
Services: A memorial service will be held for friends and family at Weber Funeral Home on 502 Ridge Avenue, Allentown on Wednesday, September 26 at 11:00 a.m. A private graveside ceremony will be held at Laurel Cemetery prior to the memorial service. A luncheon will follow the services.
