Obituary

Richard William (Slim) Crothers

December 7, 1924 - July 13, 2014

Slim was the son of the late Charles H. Crothers and Hanna C. (Wiener) Crothers.

Slim was married to his loving wife, Rose Marie (Lebar) Crothers, for sixty years on March 23, 2014.

Slim served as a PFC in Army Co D 15th Infantry during WW II. He was wounded in action during the Anzio Invasion near Mussolini Canal on January 27, 1944, earning a Purple Heart. He also earned a European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, a Bronze Arrowhead, Good Conduct Medal, and a World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on August 5, 1946.

Slim was a lifetime member of Fullerton Fire Co. #1, American Legion Post 367, and the DAV. He was a member of the Brothers of the Brush during the 1962 Allentown Bicentennial, proudly showing off the beard he grew for the parade.

Slim was an avid hunter and fisherman. He brought home lots of delicious venison and fish. He was disappointed that he never saw a bear in the wild while hunting. He enjoyed lake and stream fishing with his children and grandsons, and deep sea fishing with his buddies. He spent many happy Sundays picnicking and playing "High Hobs" with family and friends at Lehigh Parkway. He enjoyed playing darts and card games, especially "Scat". Slim also enjoyed Sunday meat raffles in the winter. He was good with his hands, enjoyed fixing things, and was always inventing and making hand-crafted tools for family and friends.

Slim is greatly missed by his son Richard and his wife Margie; daughter Roseanne, wife of Theodore J. McFetridge; grandson Matthew Richard and his wife Laura; grandson Jeffrey Theodore; and great granddaughters, Abigail Rose and Lillian Margaret.

Slim is survived by his brother Eugene, and his sisters Elizabeth and Lucille, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Charles F. and his sister Dorothy.
