Richard H. Schmidt Sr., 86, passed away June 14th at Cedarbrook Nursing Home in Allentown. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Herman and Hermina (Lang) Schmidt. He was the husband of Annabel (Leiby) of Macungie. Richard attended E. Stroudsburg State Teachers College, as well as Lehigh University where he received his Masters Degree in 1955. He served in the Army during the Korean War, and was stationed in Japan. Richard was employed by the Allentown School District for 39 yrs. as a teacher and a coach. Richard was inducted to the Lehigh Valley Basketball and the L.E. Dieruff Halls of Fame, the Bethlehem Catholic Wall of Fame, and received the Harry C. Trexler Award from the City of Allentown. Survivors: Wife; daughters, Ricanne and fianc Robert Wagner, Randy wife of Joseph N. Hanna; son, Richard Jr. and wife Diane; five grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Doris, wife of Paul Behum; sister in law, Barbara wife of Lewis Einfalt. Services: Were held privately.
