Obituary

Richard C. Hoffman, 82, passed away Aug. 8 at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born in Allentown he was the son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Gould) Hoffman. He was the husband of the late Dolly (Mattes) who passed in 1984. After graduation from Allentown High School Richard attended the Virginia Military Institute; he was unable to complete his courses there due to his entry into active military service. He proudly served his country during WWII as an Army Infantry Paratrooper. Richard was last employed by the City of Allentown as the City Recreation Director from 1967-89; he was the assistant director for one year prior to becoming Director. He had also been employed by the Allentown Bureau of Health from 1959-66, and by the Allentown Boy's Club as Director from 1948-55. Richard was a lifetime honorary member of the Allentown Patriots Athletic Assoc; he was instrumental in the creation of Bicentennial Park and was involved in three world tournaments that were held there.
Survivors: Sons, Richard and wife Kathleen Aguero of Cambridge, MA, Joseph of Allentown; grandchildren, Robert and Veronica Aguero-Hoffman; great grandson, Damion Richard Michael Smith; brothers, Edgar of Emmaus, and Donald of Salem, OR; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sons, Robert and Michael; brother, Francis "Joe" , and sister, Catherine Christman.
Services: Tuesday 12pm at Weber Funeral Home, 1619 Hamilton St. Allentown. Viewings will be held on Monday from 6-8pm and on Tues. from 11am till time of service at the funeral home. (www.weberfuneralhomes.com)
