Obituary

Patricia Ann Quinlan of Center Valley passed to her eternal rest on September 18, 2023, following a brief illness complicated by a second, recent bout of COVID. During her 47 years of life she was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and devoted friend to many. She passed peacefully and painlessly, surrounded by her family, friends, and colleagues at Lehigh Valley Hospital, where she practiced internal medicine for seventeen years. Patricia was predeceased by her grandparents, Theodore and Helen Vogtman and Fred and Alice Quinlan, both of Hillside New Jersey.

Patty was born on February 13, 1976 to Eileen and Fred Quinlan Sr of Clark, New Jersey, where she grew up among many friends and three younger brothers. She was active in Mountainside Gospel Chapel and Word of Life Fellowship, including missions and camp trips. Excelling in Clark schools, she graduated as valedictorian of her class at Arthur L. Johnson Regional High School. She then went on to Princeton University, where she married Darren Smith, also of Clark New Jersey, upon her graduation in 1998. She continued on to Baylor University to earn a Psy D, and then to University of Texas Medical School San Antonio, where she earned her medical doctorate in 2006.

In large part, Dr. Quinlan's medical career and residency took place within the Lehigh Valley Health Network's Muhlenburg location in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She worked extensively during the COVID pandemic and along with her team of frontline medical professionals, rendered exemplary service, saving the lives of many patients. Dr. Quinlan was loved by countless patients and colleagues alike.

Patty is survived by three teenage daughters: Madelyn, Amanda, and Molly; and brothers: Fred Jr, Brian (Julie), and Dennis (Laurie). She also leaves nieces, nephews, and cousins within the tristate area and Washington DC. A host of cherished friends would heartily affirm that to know Patty is to love Patty.

Patty was given the nickname "Doctor Angel" amid a medical emergency on a cross-country flight to Seattle. With a lack of proper medical equipment onboard, she improvised MacGyver-like methods to perform life-saving intervention, including an intravenous infusion of fluids, on an incapacitated passenger. With items collected from other passengers, along with her own hair-tie as a tourniquet, she was able to revive and sustain her patient, allowing the pilot to avert an emergency landing. For her efforts, the pilot and crew bestowed upon her this venerable moniker, which stayed with her for the rest of her life and career.

Her closest friends and colleagues continue to use this well-deserved nickname.

Rest in peace, Patty. For all of us, you will forever be our beloved Doctor Angel.

Norcross-Weber Funeral Home has been entrusted with a private interment. At Patty's request, a Celebration of Life will take place at the Homewood Suites by Hilton in Center Valley PA on Sunday September 24, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. An informal buffet will be provided, including children's favorites. All are welcome.
