IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marjorie H.
Shenk
January 14, 1933 – July 18, 2025
Marjorie Shenk, nee Harrick, a former middle school home economics teacher, died July 18 at her home in Carlisle PA following a brief illness. She was 92.
Marjorie was born in Punxsutawney, PA, the daughter of the late Joseph and Flora Harrick, who were both teachers. Marjorie attended Punxsutawney High School and Indiana University, where she followed in her parents' footsteps and earned a bachelor's degree in education.
She came to Carlisle, PA in 1956. "The day I came to town, Mother and I had our first meal in town at the Hamilton, and then I had my interview, and I was hired the same day."
Marjorie taught home economics in the Carlisle school district for over 30 years, first at the old Lamberton building (high school and junior high), and later at the current Lamberton Middle School.
In retirement, Marjorie traveled extensively via Elderhostel and other educational tours both in the USA and abroad with her husband of 55 years, the late Lawrence Shenk.
Marjorie also was an avid reader and history buff whose reading interests ranged from World War II history and political biographies to the Psalms and novels by Maeve Binchy.
Marjorie is survived by her daughter Amy of Newville, and her sons Joseph (Parkesburg, PA) and Max (Vermont), her older sister Mary Ann (Anita, PA), and younger brother Bill (Czech Republic).
She was preceded in death by her husband Larry, her older brother Joseph and her brother-in-law Rob Dorning.
Arrangements are being handled by Weber Funeral Home.
A visitation will be scheduled at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carlisle for sometime in August, and a private graveside ceremony for family is planned for later in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Marjorie's name to either First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Carlisle, or to Friends of the Bosler Memorial Library, Carlisle.
