Obituary

Margaret L. Peggy' Reiss, 88, of Allentown passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Lehigh Valley Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Palmerton, PA., June 21, 1929 to the late Stephen and Margaret (Merics) Milkovics. Peggy was the wife of Sterling H. 'Pete' Reiss, to whom she was married for 41 years until he passed away in 2001.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, homemaker, aunt, mother-in-law, Nana, cook and baker. When birthdays rolled around and you could pick your meal, her family would always choose her Hungarian paprikash with homemade nokedli, and finished the meal off with her from scratch chocolate cake and icing.

She worked from home before it was the thing to do. She started her own business, PLR Ceramics, in the 70s and worked at it for 12 years. She did this to stay at home with her children. When her children got older, she worked for the Allentown School district as a paraprofessional. After retiring, she enjoyed many years volunteering at St. Catharine of Siena, helping to serve lunches to the students. Peggy and Pete enjoyed their retirement years traveling on bus trips, cruises and just hopping in the car to visit family. You always knew you were at Nana and Pop-Pop's house because there was always
music playing and a special candy dish was always filled with peanut M&M's (and refilled and refilled).

After Pete passed away, she proudly lived independently until she could no longer get around on her own. She then moved to Country Meadows, Allentown, where she continued to enjoy old friends and make new ones. She appreciated the many activities there and was always up for a bus trip or a good bingo game.

Peggy loved to play cards, especially FanTan, Tripoly or Spite and Malice, all for pennies and usually walked away with the kitty. She enjoyed visiting family, and took pride in her grandkids. She was always ready to watch them at whatever sporting event they were participating in.

She was also never one to pass up ice cream. In fact, just a few weeks ago on her last birthday, in lieu of a cake she opted to be taken out by her children to celebrate with a dish of ice cream. The last few weeks while in the hospital, there would always be a cup of ice cream on her tray to which she would ALWAYS eat first.

Peggy is survived by two daughters; Gail Heimbach and husband David and Lisa Thompson and husband Thomas, and two Sons; Michael Reiss and wife Beatriz, and Thomas Reiss. Her four Grandchildren included Andrew Heimbach, Julie (Heimbach) Bet and husband Nolan, Emily Thompson and Trent Thompson. She is survived by her brother William Milkovics and sister, Martha Feichtel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM., Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Cathedral of Saint Catharine of Siena: 1825 W. Turner St., Allentown, PA.
