Louis J. Gerancher

Louis J. "Lou" Gerancher, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on June 9, 2016 at his residence in Allentown. Born in Allentown on April 20, 1932, he was a son of the late Charles and Mary (Domotor) Gerancher. Louis was the loving husband of Rita (Klucharich) Gerancher with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage this past April. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Louis served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War where he was injured, earning him a Korean Service Medal. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign War, the American Legion and the Boys Club of Allentown Alumni Association. He was a 1950 graduate of Central Catholic High School and recently was inducted to the Wall of Fame in Rockne Hall for basketball. He retired from Mack Trucks in 1987 after 33 years as a sheet metal worker. Louis was the 3rd youngest of 13 children and is predeceased by 11 siblings.


Survivors: Wife, Rita; Son, William and his wife Pamela; Daughters, Julia Gerancher and Maryann Nelson and her husband Daniel; Grandchildren, Danielle Kalman and her husband Michael, Allison Gerancher, Colin Gerancher, and Lauren Nelson; Great Grandsons, Michael and Jonathan Kalman; Sister, Ethel Glass and her husband Fred; Sister-in Law, Ernestine Gerancher; many nieces and nephews.

Services: Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 AM Mon., June 13, 2016 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1046 W. Cedar Street, Allentown, PA.
