Obituary

Lawrence J. "Whitey" Vass, 89, of Coopersburg, passed away November 4, 2018. Born in Blairstown, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Raymond and Ethel (Cook) Vass. Lawrence is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Genevieve (Danko) Vass.

After graduating high school, Lawrence went on to serve our country in the United States Army during the Korean War where he earned a bronze star. Before and after serving, he went on to work for A&P Food Store where he earned the nickname, "Whitey". Lawrence eventually retired after working at A&P for 67 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 164 in Hackettstown, NJ. In his free time, he loved modern square dancing and round dancing, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, and especially loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Genevieve, he is survived by five children: David and his wife Helene Vass, Joanne Bednar, Ruth Vass, Pastor Bryan Karchner and his wife Linda, and Kevin Karchner and his partner Elisa; daughter-in-law, Cindi Vass; son-in-law Hotse Heeres; thirteen grandchildren: Ryan Foster, Jon Vass, Larry Phillip Vass, Jasmine Vass, Saivaughn Vass, Daniel Heeres, Amy Gittins, Rachael Lockman, Steven Heeres, Julianna Heeres, Isaac Karchner, Darian Karchner, and Josiah Karchner; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter Vass of Florida; nieces, and nephews.

Lawrence was preceded in death by one son, Larry K. Vass, and five siblings, Harry Vass, Cline Stan Vass, Ruth Carling, Ralph Vass, and Francis Vass.

A viewing will be held from 530-830PM on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Norcross Weber Funeral Home 101B North Main Street Coopersburg, PA. A second viewing will be held from 10AM until the service at 11AM on Thursday November 8, 2018, all at Morningstar Moravian Church 234 S. Main Street Coopersburg, PA. Burial will follow at Pequest Union Cemetery in Great Meadows, New Jersey.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lawrence's name to either the Morningstar Moravian Church or the Moravian Village 634 E. Broad Street Bethlehem, PA 18018.
