January 18, 1947 – January 11, 2019
John Louis Pook, 71, of Center Valley, passed away January 11, 2019 in the hospital. Born in Budapest, Hungary John was the son of the late Peter and Ruth (Owen) Pook. John is survived by his loving partner of 33 years, Mary Lou Claire.
He arrived in the United States during the Revolution of Hungary. He spent five years in a New Jersey orphanage before being adopted by the Pook family. After graduating from Easton High School, John went on to Juniata College for two years where he studied history. After two years at Juniata, John served honorably in the army during the Vietnam War. Following his service, John worked at Bethlehem Steel for 24 years and then went on to work at various jobs until his retirement.
John was an avid reader, taking special interests in the early American entrepreneurs and history. His other interests included traveling throughout the United States with his partner. His favorite trips were to Maine, many beautiful areas of New England, the Northwest, Canadian Rockies, and reunions with family and friends in Las Vegas. Visits to Mary Lou's son in Michigan, and traveling to Happy Valley for Penn State football weekends were some of his annual road trips.
In addition to his partner, Mary Lou, he is lovingly remembered by her children, Alison, wife of Frank Serra, Gregory and his wife, Cathleen Claire, Tamara Claire of Beijing, China, and the late Danielle Claire; grandchildren: Kirsten Walter, Aaron Walter, Nathan Walter, Ashley Maza, and Rachel Claire; great-granddaughter, Sophia Maza; siblings: Peter Pook, Ronald and Debbie Pook, Holly Sachev, Elizabeth Pook, Matthew Pook, Stewart and Cassandra Pook, and Margaret and John Oehler, plus many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, January 19, 2019. Calling hours will be held from 1030AM until the time of service all at Norcross-Weber Funeral Home 101B North Main Street Coopersburg, PA 18036.
