Coyne
January 14, 1936 – January 6, 2023
John Francis Coyne, of Emmaus, passed away on Jan 6 at the age of 86 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in S.W. Philadelphia, Pa to the late Gerald Joseph Coyne Sr. and Gertrude (Kelly) and was predeceased by his daughter Eleanor Powell. John was a lifelong resident of Upper Darby, Pa and was a teacher with the Philadelphia School District. He was most proud of working as a citizenship teacher where he helped prepare people for the citizenship test. He had done this for 7 years working with Father Peter Welsh and opened a school for ESL, teaching American History and how to become a U.S. citizen. John had been a Cantor at St. Alice Church and a minister at the altar with Father Welsh. He had sung with the choir at St Laurence as well as St. Anne's Catholic Churches, loved doing plays as a member of the St. Francis Players, and was an avid Cardinals fan. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 12886 in Emmaus, Pa and was a third order Franciscan. Survivors: the mother of his children: Eleanor Coyne Daughters: Tina CoyneSmith and Husband Tim, Jeanne Gursky and Caroline Coyne and Justin . Son: John G. Coyne. 11 Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandchild along with nieces and nephews. Services: A visitation will be held on Saturday February 4, 2023 starting at 9:00AM to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM Both will be held at St Anne's Catholic Church in Emmaus, PA.
Contributions: May be made in memory of John to : the Diabetes Foundation or to Covent House P.O. Box 758636, Topeka, KS 66675-9986. or to an ESL non profit for teaching English as a second language.
