Obituary

John Anthony Apuzzo, 85, of Coopersburg, PA, passed away March 28, 2025. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late John Joseph and Josephine (Rizzo) Apuzzo. John is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Colleen (Camoia) Apuzzo.

After graduating from high school and attending some college courses, John spent a majority of his career working for Pan-American Airlines for over 35 years and eventually stayed in the airline industry for a few more years until his retirement. While working, he traveled the world with his wife and family.

He was treasurer and a board member for the Italian American Culture Club of the Lehigh Valley. With his friends, he made wine and loved playing bocce. He loved crossword puzzles and playing poker. He was a New York Yankee baseball fan, loved food, especially fruit, and was great at working with his tools, even if he always managed to hurt himself in the process.

A patriarch of the family, always found at the head of the table at meals, and especially on Sunday dinners, he had a special place in his heart and made time for every one of his beloved family members. He loved sneaking out for breakfast with his daughter, Marlene, when she was a little girl and called her his "best pal"; he had a host of private jokes that will never be revealed with his daughter, JoAnn, handled home improvement projects with his son-in-law, Mark; loved the corny puns with his son-in-law, Mike; looked forward to Taco Bell lunch dates with his granddaughter, Melody, he helped his grandson, Max, "hunt for Santa" on Christmas, Jessica, his granddaughter who made him a Poppy bonded over their love of the Yankees and had their special "junk food day" together, and he was always "Poppy Poppy Poppy" to his granddaughter, Danielle. While he was an adoring husband, father, and grandfather, the highlight of his life was his great-granddaughter, Mackenzie.

In addition to his wife Colleen, he will be lovingly remembered by his daughters: JoAnn, wife of Mark Altman, Marlene, wife of Mike Portnoy; grandchildren: Jessica Altman and her fiance, Kenny Taft, Danielle Altman, and her boyfriend, Armand, Melody Portnoy, and her boyfriend, Evan, and Max Portnoy and his girlfriend, Alex; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Taft; his sister, Vivian Sena, and many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
