Obituary

Jamil Salibi, age 82 from Allentown, passed away on July 31st. He was born on October 21, 1930 in Almeshtayeh, Syria to the late Youseff and Nafleh (Saleet) Salibi. Jamil worked as a teacher at a high school in Syria before becoming an Accounting Clerk at the Syrian Ministry of Defense for almost 20 years. He retired on July 3rd, 1997 after working for 17 years as an inspector for Raxon Fabric, in Allentown. Jamil started and managed the first Arabic radio station, as well as the first Arabic school, in Allentown, for the Arab American Association. He was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church and a founder and manager of the Almeshtayeh Non-Profit organization, in Syria as well as in Allentown. He was a member of the American Discriminating Committee (ADC) and the Arab American Association (AAA). Jamil was predeceased by Sisters Wadiah Younis and Jamileh Chakif.
Survivors: Wife Kamal Salibi, his Sons: Joseph, Jamal, Jehad of Allentown, and Daughter Najwa wife of Atef Elias of Allentown, Brother Abdo Salibi of Syria and Sister Wedad wife of Hanna Semaan of Australia, 6 Grandchildren Zaina, James, Jorden, Jad, Ella, and Destiny and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services: A viewing will be held on Friday August 2 from 9-11AM to be followed by a service at 11AM; both will be held at St. Georges Antiochian Orthodox Church in Allentown. Arrangements by Weber Funeral Home.
