Howard "Hoppy" Henry Master, 91, of Whitehall, formerly of Coopersburg, passed away on March 10, 2017 at Fellowship Manor surrounded by his family. He was born in Old Zionsville, PA, on June 25, 1925, was the son of the late Howard and Clara (Hoffman) Master and graduated from Allen High School in 1943. He is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth (Hodges) Master with whom he shared 41 years of marriage.
Following graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and was an Aviation Machinist's Mate during World War II. In 1948 he began work at Air Products where he remained for 39 years before retiring. He traveled the world as Operations Control and Safety Manager, landing on aircraft carriers, flying into remote rainforests in Peru, working at the French Guiana Space Center and in South Africa among many other places. He enjoyed reading, wood working, hunting, birding, hiking and photography. He visited over 20 different countries, 80 national parks and climbed 7 mountains including Mt. Rainier in Washington and Mt. Fuji in Japan. He belonged to the Cloverleaf Archery Club, was an active member of AirPRO, the Air Products Retirees Association and participated for many years in the Lehigh Valley Audubon Society's annual Christmas Bird Count.
In addition to his wife Elizabeth, he is survived by, son; Terry Master and wife Sally of Nazareth, step-son; Wayne Dries and wife Kathy of Emmaus, step-daughters; Eileen and husband David Maynard of Reading, Doreen and husband Raymond Legg of Allentown, brothers; Richard Master of Allentown, LaRoy "Skeeter" Master and wife Jocelyn of CT, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Howard is preceded in death by brother Jack Master, step son William "Bill" Master, sister-in-law Jeanette Master and first wife Mildred Master.
A viewing will be held Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 10:00AM up until the time of service at 11:00, both at Zentz Center of Fellowship Community, 3020 Fellowship Drive, Whitehall PA 18052. Burial will follow. Arrangements entrusted to NORCROSS WEBER FUNERAL HOME, 101B NORTH MAIN STREET, COOPERSBURG. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Howard's name can be made to The Wildlands Conservancy, 3701 Orchid Pl., Emmaus, PA.
