Herman Franklin Ring
Herman Franklin "Mort" Ring, 85, of Center Valley, formerly of Laporte, Sullivan County, PA, passed away on May 26, 2011 at his son's residence. Born in Quakertown, PA; he was a son of the late Raymond A. and Anna (White) Ring. He was the husband of Betty M. (Lichtenwalner) Ring for 63 years. He was a 1943 graduate of Allentown High School. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the newly commissioned submarine U.S.S. Torsk during WWII. Early in 1945, 20 year old Radioman, 3rd Class Ring, operating sonar, helped navigate the Torsk for the 17 hours it took to navigate the minefields at the southern entrance to the Sea of Japan. After the war, he worked in maintenance at the G.E. plant in south Allentown. From 1958 to 1966 he was co-proprietor along with the late Julio Toresan of the Limeport Hotel. He was a member of the united Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local 600. He was a 32nd degree Mason, member of Saucon Lodge 469 F&AM. He was of the Lutheran Faith. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Survivors: Wife, Betty; Son, Edward, husband of Jeanne, with whom he resided; Daughter, Janet Semmel, wife of Larry of New Tripoli; Sister, Florence Minnich of West Virginia; Grandsons, Army Capt. Jacob Ring, Benjamin Ring, and Timothy and Gregory Gilman; Granddaughters, Beth Albaucq, Audrey Semmel, and Cecilia Gilman; and great granddaughter, Evelyn Albaucq. He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Lindaberry.
Services: 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 31 at Norcross-Weber Funeral Home, 101-B N. Main St., Coopersburg, PA. Calling: 9:00 AM, Tuesday until time of services at the funeral home. Interment to be held at Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown.
