Geraldine Alice (Mattes) Welton peacefully passed at the age of 98 from this life into the Church Triumphant on Friday, July 2, 2021.  Her final hours were spent at St. Luke's Hospice House.

She was born in Philadelphia, PA on April 19, 1923 and resided there until 1991when she and her husband moved to the Lehigh Valley.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George W. Welton.

Gerry is survived by two daughters – Carol Quirk (wife of Harry E. Quirk, deceased) of Springtown, PA and Patricia Matusz (wife of Joseph Matusz) of Philadelphia, PA.  She loved and celebrated her two grandchildren, Steven Matusz (husband to Johna) of New Hope, PA and Stacey DeCaesar (wife of Todd) of Abington, PA.  She has two great-grandchildren, Francis and Anthony DeCaesar and a cousin, Nelson Rimensnyder of Washington, DC.

After her younger daughter entered high school, Gerry started working as a tax examiner for the Internal Revenue Service in Philadelphia.  After moving to Lehigh Valley she became an active member of Light of Christ (formerly Messiah) Lutheran Church of Bethlehem.  For years she attended the Christian Service Group sending greeting cards to members of the congregation for events like birthdays and illnesses.  She also enjoyed making lap robes and blankets for nursing homes.  Gerry was still crocheting lap robes until about a week prior to her passing.  She also worked briefly in the Prayer Shawl Ministry and assisted in Vacation Bible School for several years.

Gerry's favorite past time was spending weekends in the Poconos at the family cabin.  She was also active in a local church, serving on the Board of Trustees for many years.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Light of Christ Lutheran Church at a date later to be announced.  Inurnment at Bethlehem Memorial Park will be private.
