Obituary

Frank J. McVeigh, PhD., 75, of Allentown died following a brief illness while on vacation in Florida. He passed to eternal life with his savior on April 14, 2007 at William Childs Hospice House, Palm Bay, Florida. Born in Hi-nella, NJ, he was the son of the late Frank J. and Viola (Richmond) McVeigh. He was the loving husband of Marie A. (Pollits/Davitt) McVeigh for over 15 years. He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Allentown. Dr. McVeigh was a professor at Muhlenberg College for 32 years until his retirement in 1998. He received his bachelors of science from LaSalle University in 1957, and his Masters degrees from Loyola University - Chicago and Marywood College, and his PhD. from St. John's University in 1970. Frank also served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Dr. McVeigh was also an active member of the Lehigh Valley community, serving on many organizational boards as a sociologist in support of justice & equality for all men and women alike. In addition, Frank served the Lord in many ministry capacities, such as Prison Ministry, Compeer, Community Action Programs, Daily Bread, as well as Eucharistic Minister to the sick in nursing homes. He enjoyed the beach, reading, tennis, and especially helping others. He loved his family dearly, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors: Wife Marie McVeigh of Allentown; Daughter, Linda Sell of Coopersburg and Evelyn DiSante of Thorndale, PA; Step-son Francis J. Davitt of Leesport, Step-daughter Marla (Davitt) Hinkle of Melbourne, FL, Brothers, Paul of Westmont, NJ and Edward of Florida; Sister, Mary Lundbeck of Blackwood, NJ; 11 Grandchildren
Services: Viewing: 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. Friday, April 20, 2007 at Weber Funeral Home, P.C., 1619 Hamilton St., Allentown and 9:00 AM until time of mass, Saturday, April 21 at the church.
