Evelyn M. Duke, RN
Evelyn M. (Fenstermacher) Duke, 93, passed away peacefully, Sunday November 9th, embraced by her sons and in the home in which she was born. Born in Spring Valley, Upper Saucon Township, she was the daughter of Ralph and Lydia (Kemmerer) Fenstermacher.
A graduate of Liberty H.S. Class of '38, she received her nursing degree in 1943 at Albert Einstein (then Jewish Hospital) in Philadelphia. After several years of private duty nursing throughout the Philadelphia region she returned to the Lehigh Valley to care for her ailing mother. She later earned her Bachelor of Science at East Stroudsburg State College '67 Summa Cum Laude and did masters studies at Kutztown State College. She began her work as a school nurse for the Saucon Valley School District's Reinhard, Wolf and St. Theresa Schools before moving to the Bethlehem Area School District's Marvin, Lincoln, Governor Wolf, Calypso, St. Ann and Sacred Heart Schools. She was a member of New Jerusalem "Apples" Lutheran Church, Leithsville.
She will be remembered most for her devotion to family and friends; her quilts, baby blankets and needlepoint; her love of her yard; her tenacious spirit and her chocolate cake.
Survivors: Sons Frederic R. Duke of Spring Valley and James W. Duke of Center Valley, both in Upper Saucon Township. She was predeceased by her husband Wesley M. Duke, sisters Verna, Elizabeth and Joan, and her brother John. She leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Services: 1 Pm Friday, November 14, 2014 at Evelyn's home, 1405 Station Ave., Bethlehem, PA. Visitation Thursday evening November 13, 2014 from 6 until 8 Pm at Norcross-Weber Funeral Home, 101 B. N. Main St., Coopersburg.
