Ernest "Ernie" G. Norton, 85, of Allentown, passed away on March 14, 2021 with his loving family by his side. Born in Allentown PA, he later resided in Allentown, Coopersburg and Jacksonville, FL, before finding his final residence at the Phoebe Apartments in Allentown. He was the loving husband of the late Marianne R. (Koch) Norton, with whom he shared 36 years of marriage. He was the son of the late John Norton, raised by Ralph Cope and mother, Ruth (Norton) Cope of Allentown. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Norton of Allentown.
Ernie graduated from Allen High and served in the Army National Guard & Reserve. He was employed at Air Products & Chemicals, where he worked 25+ years as a machinist and was a Financial Officer for the IAM Union. After retirement, he remained active. He enjoyed bus trips, dancing, biking, going to recitals and sporting events, and spending time with family and friends. His true passion became evident when he began volunteering at the Phoebe Allentown campus, where his outgoing personality and smile was infectious to all. His passion and dedication led him to earning the 2014 & 2015 President 's Volunteer Service Award given by President Barack Obama and 2016's Volunteer of the Year award from the Lehigh Valley Business Health Care Heroes. He is a member of St. Matthews UCC Church in Kunkletown, PA.
SURVIVORS: Children: Kimberley Norton, Wayne Norton, and Lisa Schmidt wife of Dennis Schmidt. Sister: Mae Ross companion of Larry Seier. Brother: Rev. Scott Brooks-Cope husband of Rev. Suzanne Brooks-Cope. Grandchildren: Janel Norton and Benjamin Schmidt. Cherished Nieces and Nephews: Trevor, Patricia (Tricia), Taylor, Timmy, Ellen, Dale, Linda, William (Billy), Paul, Ethel, and Dale.
SERVICES: Saturday, March 20 th at Norcross-Weber Funeral Home, 101 N. Main St., Coopersburg PA. Calling hours 9:30am - 11:00am, followed by a graveside service and burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, 5900 Applebutter Hill Rd, Coopersburg, PA. An additional memorial service will be held at Moyer Hall in the Phoebe Home at a later date.
