Obituary

Emerick "Bill" Pandl has danced his last polka on this earth. He was born in New York City to Austrian immigrants on May 5, 1924 and died on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, at the age of 88. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Theresa (Kurtz) Poandl and brothers John and Alfred, as well as wives Joyce Deiley, Tessy Schramel and Elizabeth Phillips. He is survived by his son David, David's wife Sara, and grandsons Max and Zachary. After the death of Elizabeth, he lived in the good graces and loving attention of the Litak family. Along with his brothers, Emerick served in the US Army in Europe during WWII. Upon his return to the Lehigh Valley he worked at Freihofer Bakery and later at Branch Motors, both located in Allentown and no longer in operation. Like many first generation Americans, he belonged to a number of social clubs that reflected his heritage, including the Allgemeiner Club, the Hari-Gari Club, the Ukranian Club and the Coplay Saengerbund where there was often a polka band playing and where he found camaraderie. Emerick was a sweet man, easy with a smile, liked by all and loved by many.
