Elsie M. Becker, 96, loving wife and mother,
passed peacefully from this life on Thursday,
March 24. She was the wife of the late Earl
A. Becker with whom she celebrated 66 years
of marriage and the daughter of the late Ewald
and Elisabeth (Schmitz) Marcus. Born in
Solingen-Ohligs, Germany she immigrated to
the US with her parents as a young child,
growing up mostly in the Lehigh Valley.
Graduating from Allentown High School in
1944, Elsie continued her education becoming
a beautician, working for Beil's Beauty Shop
in Allentown. Elsie throughout her life was a
generous, happy individual who devoted her
energy to her immediate and extended
families. She had the type of joyous
personality that made complete strangers
share their life stories with her. She was a
good listener and not prone to judge others.
After her husband's passing in 2014, Elsie
continued to manage her household through
age 94, finally residing with her daughter and
husband for the last 16 months of her life. In
a world where success is often determined by
monetary gain and possessions, Elsie's strong
suit was measured in her steadfast love and
optimism for family and friends. Elsie is
survived by her son, Gary A. and his wife
Susan; daughter, Gail E. Kloss and her
husband, Richard; grandchildren, Ryan and
Erin Kloss; cousin, Peter Schmitz; and
nephews, John and David Blazosky. Elsie
was a member of St. Luke's Evangelical
Lutheran Church of Allentown. Private
services for Elsie M. Becker were held on
March 31.
