Edgar L. Smith, 70 of Whitehall, passed away Feb. 12 in Sacred Heart Hospital. Born in Decatur, Neb., he was a son of the late Leroy and Gertrude (Darling) Smith.
Edgar was the husband of Dolores (Billowitch) Smith, who passed away in 2004. He was Lieutenant commander in the Navy during the Vietnam era and served in the Philippines and in Sicily. He held a bachelor's degree in education from Wayne State in Nebraska and did graduate work at Kutztown University. Edgar worked for the Parkland School District for 30 years as a teacher in Springhouse Junior High School. He was a member of American Legion Post 367, Fullerton.
Survivors: Daughter, Kathleen Smith of Nashville, Tenn.; brother, Robert Smith of Birmingham, Ala.; sisters, Emma Lou Crom of Washington State, Juanita Richardson of Decatur; nieces, nephews; his two cats, Pumpkin and Miss Kitty. He was predeceased by brothers, Marvin and Pete.
