Obituary

Diane Ella Allen, 84, of Sinking Spring, PA passed away in the loving comfort of her five children at home on August 1, 2024. Diane was born on November 6, 1939 in Allentown, PA to the late Lionel R. Mertz and Margaret A. Schoener. Diane was married to the late Joseph J. Allen, Jr. with whom she shared nearly 56 years of marriage before his passing in 2012. She worked many years as a sewing machine operator and a caregiver. Diane enjoyed several hobbies including reading, word puzzles, cooking, gardening, and watching General Hospital faithfully everyday. Diane was a fantastic roller skater in her younger years and shared this hobby with her children. She loved to watch figure skating whenever it was on TV. Diane also loved camping with Joseph and their children and grandchildren, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, and playing games including dice, cards, pokeno, and bingo. Diane was known to have the most amazing giggle. She loved music and enjoyed dancing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Diane was dedicated to her family and loved them endlessly. She was patient, loving, strong, compassionate, warm, and fun. Words are not enough to describe the woman that was she was and the mark that she has left on this world.  Diane built a beautiful legacy that will forever be remembered and honored by her family.

Survivors: children, Joseph J. Allen III and wife Mary of Orefield, PA, Donna M. Martin and husband James of Cowpens, SC, Tyrone L. Allen and wife Jean of Saylorsburg, PA, Tami E. Skaf and husband Nicola of Sinking Spring, PA with whom she resided, and Shelly A. Frick and husband Dan of Coplay, PA; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Janice M. Beck and husband Barry of Georgia, Roxanne R. Kerkusz and husband Ray of Allentown, PA; and many other loving family members and friends. Diane is predeceased by her husband Joseph J. Allen, Jr. and siblings RaeAlice Nagel, Lionel R. Mertz, Jr., Tyrone N. Mertz, Luther M. Mertz, and Robin R. Mertz.

Services for Diane will be held Monday, August 5th at Weber Funeral Home, 502 Ridge Avenue, Allentown, PA 18102 (610) 434-9349. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m., with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery 2010 W Chew St, Allentown, PA 18104
