Obituary

Clare Farrel, 93, died January 19, 2021 at Holy Family Manor in Bethlehem.  Originally from Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Stalter and Clara (Schaffer) Stalter.  She was married to Lamar Farrel for 70 years until his passing in 2018.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward "Skip" Stalter.  She is survived by her 4 children:  Gregory Farrel (wife Martha) of Escondido, CA; Eileen Wally (husband Tom) of Belmont, OH; Jocelyn Paulus (late husband Daniel) and Regina Farrel Stohr (husband Mick), both of Bethlehem, PA; 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Clare graduated from Central Catholic High School and later worked for the telephone company in Stroudsburg.

Her family was always her priority but she loved doing volunteer work in her spare time.  Clare was involved in Girl Scouts for many years as neighborhood chairman, troop leader, and at Girl Scout camps Mosey Wood and Camp Helena. She received the Scouts "Thanks Badge", their highest honor.  She volunteered for 19 years at St. Joseph's Church in Limeport, PA in the CCD program. She organized volunteers to become the first school crossing guards at St. Francis of Assisi parish in Allentown where she also was an organist. She later became a member of Ss. Simon & Jude parish in Bethlehem where she served as lector and a volunteer librarian at the grade school for 33 years.  She received recognition from the Allentown diocese for 25 years of service.  Clare enjoyed square dancing, singing and playing Mrs. Santa Claus at NCC's annual Christmas choral concert and at Ss. Simon & Jude's annual Christmas bazaar.

Two of her favorite hobbies were sewing and knitting which she continued to enjoy throughout her life.  M & M was dearly loved by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.  We will miss her greatly.

Clare's family would like to express their gratitude to the hard-working staff and volunteers at Holy Family Manor who took such good care of her while she resided there.
