(Walt) Tremer, Iii
October 21, 1935 – May 31, 2021
Charles Walter (Walt) Tremer III, of Coopersburg, Pa, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2021 at the age of 85 with his wife, Janet, and daughter, Shana, by his side. He was born on October 21, 1935 in Philadelphia to the late Charles Walter Tremer II and Mary Frances (Schwartz).
A life long learner, Walt's extensive education began at Frankford HS and included Yale University's Chinese Language School and NSA's Russian Language Program. At Temple University, he earned a BA in Anthropology and Archaeology and a Masters' Degree in Education.
His careers included: Chinese and Russian interpreter for NSA; Social Studies teacher at Abington HS; Archaeologist at sites in Minuteman National Park (MA), Czechoslovakia, Belarus, and the Champlain Site (Maine/Canada). He was a Professor of Archaeology & Anthropology at Muhlenberg College, Moravian College, & Lafayette College; He created, directed, & taught the Gifted Program for Southern Lehigh SD from which he retired in 2006 .
Walt received recognition for outstanding teaching from many organizations including NASA's Teacher in Space Program and as a Christina McAuliffe Institute Scholar. He enjoyed worldwide travel, birds, photography, and volunteering for numerous animal rescues.
Walt is survived by wife, Janet (nee Besz); daughter, Shana Lynn Tremer; grandchildren Joshua Perry, Johanna Perry, and Josephina Perry; three sisters, several nieces and nephews, and countless, dear friends worldwide.
Services: A public visitation will be held on Saturday June 5, 2021 from 10:30 am until noon at Norcross Weber Funeral Home in Coopersburg, PA. A brief Private Service will be held after which the public is invited to attend the burial at Chestnut Hill Church Cemetery in Coopersburg. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: americanhumane.org, janegoodall.org, or lastchanceranch.org.
