Obituary

Carolyn Lesetta Betting Crilley, 97, of Allentown, passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2022 in her
home from natural causes.
Carolyn was born January 8, 1925 in Jim Thorpe (Mauch Chunk) to William F. and Maude (Kressly)
Betting. Her father died suddenly when Carolyn was 2 years old, and her mother raised Carolyn and her
two brothers by herself. Carolyn was an excellent student in school and played the clarinet in the band.
Her first job was in a factory in Mauch Chunk. After graduating from Mauch Chunk High School in 1942,
she went to work for the Jersey Railroad in Jersey City, NJ. However, she continued to live in Mauch
Chunk with her widowed mother and took the train each day to and from work. Later she worked as a
waitress at The Paddock and for Colonial Life Insurance (Chubb) Insurance.
Carolyn married the love of her life, Albert (Al) Crilley June 7, 1945 while he was home on leave from the
Navy. They started dating when she was 14 and were married 69 years when Al died December 19,
2014. She was then cared for at home by her daughter Carol Sue.
Carolyn was a faithful member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Allentown. She
taught Sunday School there for many decades. She and Al owned the Clifford Park Mobil Station on
Walbert Ave from 1969 until Al retired. Carolyn enjoyed road trips, visiting relatives, and camping. She
was a dedicated mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who enjoyed having her family around her and
baking cookies and brownies.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Charles and William Betting, and grandson
Adam Crilley.
Carolyn is survived by: Carolyn Bartholomew of Allentown, Diane Shearer and her husband James of
