Bruce Marger
Bruce R. Marger, M.D., F.A.C.C, 92, died at Lehigh Valley Hospital on April 18, 2014. Born in Nanticoke, PA, but raised in Hanover Twp., Luzerne County; Bruce was a son of the late Bruce W. and Stella M. Maga. He was the loving husband of the late Esther J. "Billie" Marger for over 62 years until her death in 2012. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena, Allentown. At Hanover High School he was the President of his class for three years and was salutatorian at commencement exercises. He attended Franklin and Marshall College for three years, where he was class president in his last year and an honors student. He was admitted to the School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, without a Bachelor's Degree. Dr. Marger interned at Allentown Hospital. He served in the Army of the United States, in Germany. His last assignment was as Regimental Surgeon (TO/M Major, To/E Major) in the famed 2nd Calvary Regiment.
On returning to Allentown he was the first Internal Medicine Resident at Sacred Heart Hospital. He then returned to the University Of Pennsylvania Graduate School Of Medicine. Dr. Marger practiced Internal Medicine in Allentown in the 1950's and early 1960's. A major part of his career was as Chief of Medicine and Cardiology and Director of Medical Education at Sacred Heart Hospital in Norristown, PA. Finally, he was an Attending Physician/Cardiologist at the Veterans Administration Clinic in Allentown.
Dr. Marger was a Diplomat of the American College of Internal Medicine and a Fellow in the American College of Cardiology.
Survivors: seven children, Deborah of Herndon, Stefanie wife of Richard Knauss of Macungie, Anthony of Allentown, Mary of Emmaus, Catherine of Emmaus, Bruce, III of Harleysville, Kristina Bowen of Allentown; and six grandchildren.
