Betty F. Allwein, 89, of Allentown returned to the Lord Thursday, July 25 from Hospice LHV Allentown surrounded by her loving family. Betty was the loving wife of Robert A. Allwein celebrating 50 years of marriage in February. Born in Lebanon PA to the late Philip J and Catherine Troy Foster, she had worked for Bell Telephone and was a member of the Bell Pioneers. She was active in St. Thomas More parish, the school association and the last love of her life the St. Thomas More Bridge Group. Betty was the loving mother of Helen Tiene Alexandria VA, and her stepsons Robert P and Thomas M.
Betty was proud of her years in the Gutter Ball Gerties. Strength and dignity personified her four year struggle with COPD. She was preceded in death by her brother William (WWII) and sisters Miriam Fisher and Alice Pontz.
Survivors. Betty will be lovingly remembered by her husband Bob, daughter Helen and husband Rick Tiene of Arlington VA, stepsons Rob and wife Karen Allwein of Bethlehem, and Tom of Washington DC, her grandchildren Charlie & Jack Tiene, Michele McCann & Lisa Diehl of Easton, and her three great grandchildren Reese and Reilly McCann, Mason Diehl, and dozens of nieces and nephews.
Services
A viewing will be held 5:45 to 6:45 pm Friday, August 2 at Saint Thomas More Church, 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 PM. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Lebanon PA following Mass on Saturday August 10 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Assumption B.V.M. Church in Lebanon.
