Droney
September 20, 1939 – July 29, 2022
Bernard Earl Droney, of Bethlehem, passed away on July 29th at the age of 82. He was born in Dubois, Pa to the late Daniel Bernard Droney and Eleanor Josephine (Reitz) and had been married to the late Janet M. (Karr) for 60 years upon her passing in 2020.
Bernard had attended Sandy High School in Dubois, Pa and then went on to receive his Doctorate in Physics in 1966 from Penn State University where he was in the Sigma Pi Sigma Physics Honor Society. He then went to work as a senior scientist for Bethlehem Steel where he developed instruments to test steel and ensure quality. He presented numerous technical and scientific papers related to testing red-hot steel and received an award for his part in developing the Tomographic Sheet Profile Gauge. He traveled extensively with his wife and enjoyed genealogy.
He was predeceased by his wife, parents, son Bernie Clair Droney, and brothers: Daniel Droney and Frank Droney.
Survivors: Son Mike (aka "Uncle Mike") Droney, Daughter Michele Turner and husband Harry, and Sister Carole Freeman.
Services: A memorial service will be held 3PM Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Pearson Funeral Home 1901 Linden St, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or to the American Diabetes Association.
