Obituary

Arlene June Hoanzl passed into Heaven peacefully at the age of 94 on

January 5, 2021.  She was born on June 9, 1926 and lived her whole life on Railroad Street in Allentown.  She was being served by SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care & Hospice at the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Hoanzl, 5 sisters, and I brother.  She is survived by her younger brother, William Keiser of Allentown, one sister-in-law, Jean Hoanzl of Gracedale Nursing

Home, and two daughters – Theresa Brown of Allentown and Barbara Czekner, wife of John Czekner of Fairfield, Virginia.  She loved and celebrated her seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, plus many cherished nephews and nieces.      This family will forever miss her amazing cooking.  She was an artist in the kitchen who never left a dirty pot or plate in the sink.  Her sewing skills were that of a professional seamstress, and her green thumb has provided plants to family, friends, and neighbors all around the country.  The garden always gave her the vegetables for canning and the grape vine has never stopped putting out bunches of grapes, and beautiful, colorful flowers.  She was an active member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church at Ridge and Chew Streets for over 20 years.  She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and was a member of the Altar Circle women's group there from 1946 until the church moved.  At that time, she joined St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Allentown. Her family learned how to be gracious and kind by watching her host countless family gatherings at the holidays.  She was a master of Scrabble, Solitaire, Parcheesi and Pinochle.  She taught us to be strong, resourceful, devoted, and to love always.  Also, she taught how to care for the sick and elderly by her example, and many Sundays after Church, she would deliver the altar flowers to those who could not be there.  Her dedicated service blessed many folks over the years, and still she found time to work at Spillane's Five and Dime at the corner of Tilghman and Ridge Streets for 25 years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church on 201 E. Juniata Street, Allentown, PA 18103 in her honor.

The arrangements are being handled by Weber Funeral Home on 502 Ridge Avenue.  Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2021.  Immediately following, a small graveside service will be held at Cedar Hill Memorial Park on Airport Road in Allentown.
